Laag Bisaya: Mission
In cooperation with National Bookstore - Project AralLaag Bisaya aims to help the people and the environment or to educate people about the importance of taking care of our mother nature, the importance of following the Leave No Trace policy. As we all know, nowadays, global warming is (lalong lumalala) due to our carelessness. Aside from that, Laag Bisaya, aims to help the less fortunate children in different places or in the mountainous areas of Visayas by doing an outreach program.
We collected our funds for the outreach program by organizing outdoor events and in that event, we sell customized t-shirts. The very first outreach program we’ve hosted was last December 2018 held at Gilutongan Integrated School in Gilutungan Island Cordova Cebu. Recently, we had our second outreach activity held at Mulao Elementary School, Brgy. Mulao Compostela Cebu held in June 2019.
Planning of the event
It is very hard to decide whether to accommodate the pupils from Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 or just Grade 1 and Grade 2 because we don’t have the funds yet, we don’t have enough supplies for the kids yet, therefore, we can’t be sure if we can cater all the kids for the grades we have mentioned.Initially, I and Ariel decided just to accommodate the kids from Grade 1 and Grade 2. But we did not stop there, because we don’t want the other kids watching while others are happy receiving their school supplies from the activity. We strive all efforts as we can do and we are extremely surprised when we got heaps of donations both cash and school supplies from different entities, friends and generous people.
Collecting of Donations and Supplies
Laag Bisaya strives its effort in collecting donations from different entities. We had sent several sponsorship letters to different companies and charity. We had also organized event/s such as hike for a cause so that we can collect funds for the said outreach program. Laag Bisaya received the most unexpected help from National Bookstore. We had received a total of 750 kits from the National Bookstore consist of Notebooks, pencils, an eraser, a sharpener and a pair of slippers. In addition, Laag Bisaya also received a donation for said activity from Pepsi Company – 80 bottles (2.25 liters each) of Pepsi cola, thanks to Lovely in organizing this donation and we also had received 400 pcs of bottled water from Bridget Dio. Aside from school supplies and hygiene kits donation, we also got a cash donation for which beyond the expected amount.

REMAINING FUNDS FOR FUTURE OUTREACH PROGRAM | 6,075.00 |
We consider this event as the biggest event among all the events we had in the past. As mentioned previously, we initially had decided to cater the pupils from Grade 1 and Grade 2 but since we were able to collect the funds and supplies that is enough to cater all the pupils from Kindergarten to Grade 6 then we are all happy to announce to school teachers during our site visit that we will cater all the pupils from Kindergarten to Grade 6.
Activities
The same with the previous outreach program held in Giluntungan Elementary School, we also had numbers of games, proper hygiene, and environmental talks. We had our proper hand-washing and proper tooth-brushing session with some of our medical expert volunteers.Help and Support
I was extremely happy and amazed by the support from different people and entity and of course from Laag Bisaya members, we even got help from Mayor Osmenia who contacted the Cebu City General Services to transport the goods from the repacking area in Brgy. Ramos to Mulao Elementary School Compostela free of charge. Thank you also to the Municipality of Mulao and PCI Ian Tana Jura Macatangay who provided us security during the event.I can’t thank enough to those people who supported the said event, to the donors, volunteers in repacking the items and volunteers in the actual outreach program, supportive teachers in Mulao School, parents of the kids, Sir Jeff, Friends and those adventurers who joined our events for a cause.
On behalf of Laag Bisaya, thank you so very much to those kind-hearted people who extend their helping hands and for making this activity possible. We are hoping that the events and activities that we will do in the future will be as successful as the previous ones with the help of the members of this team and with the support of kind-hearted people.
